The Galway City Innovation District (‘GCID’) was founded in 2015 to develop an innovation district in downtown Galway City and accelerate the growth of the regional technology ecosystem. The primary focus of GCID is to create high-value sustainable jobs in the West of Ireland. In 2016, GCID opened its first building, the PorterShed A Naide,  In 2022 GCID continued its expansion by opening PorterShd A hAon and A Dó in downtown Galway. The Board and management team at GCID are ambitious and driven, but most importantly we love what we do.

The Role

The Community Associate role with a special focus on Production is an entry-level role that will be based at the PorterShed in Galway City. This is a position that serves as the first point of contact for members and visitors of the PorterShed. This is a dynamic position that tends to the day-to-day needs of the office and assists the Portershed team in providing seamless operational and event and production support. An ideal opportunity for someone looking to learn and grow at an exciting organisation.

Greeting / Reception Management

  • Provide high level customer service and hospitality to all members and guests in person and on the phone
  • Operate the main Reception / Welcome area during business hours
  • Answer “walk-up” questions from members or guests – troubleshooting
  • Represent the distinct PorterShed brand aesthetic, atmosphere and culture
  • Accept Post and deliveries and distribute as appropriate
  • Give tours of PorterShed to interested founders, telling the story of PorterShed and community ethos
  • Maintain the integrity of our office’s safety and security by executing daily checklists and procedures to ensure seamless building operations.

Member Community Integration

  • Accelerate Introductions – Always adding value to members through relevant introductions
  • Support the teams where needed in developing community among members
  • Arrange logistics around startup engagement activities
  • Keeping in regular communication with every member, ensuring we’re meeting their needs
  • Get to know our members and help them get the most out of their PorterShed experience

Member Management 

  • Membership Administration 
  • Onboarding – Support the onboarding process including new member orientations
  • Offboarding – Manage offboarding requests from members
  • Systems – Updating our CRM and various systems with member details
  • Escalate member issues to the Membership or Facilities team
  • Have awareness of all office systems, including Skedda, Slack, Monday.com and security systems

Event and Production Support

  • Setup and breakdown of events space 
  • AV set up, support and operation during events
  • Photography and video recordings 
  • Support Events team on all aspects of Event Management including pre, during and post event activities and reporting

As a Community Associate, you will report directly to the Innovation and Community Manager and will be responsible for building and maintaining our strong, unique community – so it is integral that you be proactive and a people-person. You will be the heart and soul of our diverse community – so it’s important that you are attuned to people’s needs

Desirable Skills:

  • Hospitality and experience driven
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to speak the startup language
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and comfortable dealing with ambiguity
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and manage tasks
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Understanding of the local startup ecosystem and available resources (preferred)
  • Graphic design experience (preferred)

Salary: Commensurate with experience
Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5.00pm. Additional hours may be requested for events
Contract Duration: 12 months with option to renew
