As part of our Member Spotlight series, we interview PorterShed members and ask them to highlight their stories and why they have chosen PorterShed. For the first of the series, Nigel Moran sat down with Ty Brush, VP of Sales for the EMEA and APAC regions for A-Lign.

“I joined the PorterShed in February 2021 (2.5 years and counting!) When setting up a technology business in Galway, all signs point towards the PorterShed. The team at the PorterShed, led by Mary Rodgers, know exactly what support we need and foster an environment that is comfortable yet productive. The offices allow for our team to have secure flexible working space 24/7 while giving us the ability to interact with other companies facing similar challenges and success”.

When asked about his favourite thing about the PorterShed, Ty simply answered, the members of the PorterShed community.

“When moving to a new city or simply trying to expand your network, finding like-minded people can be difficult. The PorterShed allowed me to find customers, employees, mentors, and lifelong friends. With all the various different events happening weekly, it makes it easier to connect with new people and stay up to date with what is happening here in Galway City”.

A fun fact about Ty is that he has travelled to 44 countries and counting, with hopes to one day visit them all!

One piece of advice Ty offers for people looking to pursue a career in sales, specifically in the security sector is that….

“Focus on building product knowledge and business acumen. While sales strategy and strong rapport-building skills are extremely important, top sales performers all have the unique ability to provide consultative insights on the product/service they are selling and WHY it adds value to their customer’s business. Product competency and the ability to communicate business impacts are powerful tools that any new incoming salesperson should focus on. Oh yeah, and don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and call!”

When asked about building out a team in the West of Ireland..

In my opinion, Galway continues to stand out as the best landing spot for FDI companies looking to start in Ireland. Professional sales is one of the newer categories of employment that is being developed in the West region. There is a fantastic networking and skills development group called the Sales Professional Network based here in Galway with the specific mission of building sales expertise in the West. This group is a must for any company or person that is in sales or is looking to upskill a sales team in Galway.”

To finish the interview we asked Ty what he is looking forward to for the rest of the year…

“While Summer coming to an end can seem a bit grim, it just means we are that much closer to my favourite event on the calendar, the Annual Belmullet Christmas Tractor Run”.
