PorterShed has announced the launch of ‘Embers’, a new exhibition celebrating ten years of PorterShed and the people, stories and creativity that have shaped Galway’s innovation community. The exhibition opens on Thursday, July 23rd at PorterShed a Dó, 15 Market Street, Galway, H91 TCX3 and will run until Friday, August 21st
The exhibition will bring together 10 artists who have exhibited at PorterShed over the past decade. Each artist will present work in their own preferred style, creating a retrospective celebration of the creativity, diversity and artistic talent that has helped shape the atmosphere and identity of PorterShed since its early years.
PorterShed offers local artists a free and accessible platform to exhibit their work outside traditional gallery settings, allowing visual art into the everyday life of Galway’s innovation and co-working community. Through the “Artist of the Month” programme, PorterShed has given artists the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work, reach new customers and build confidence through individual exhibitions, without the financial barriers often associated with gallery spaces or the challenges of being an emerging artist.
Oónagh Malone, Community Associate at PorterShed said…
“PorterShed has been shaped not only by startups, entrepreneurs and innovators, but also by the artists whose work has brought colour, imagination and conversation into our spaces. Embers is a celebration of those artists and the lasting mark they have left on our community. We hope visitors will come along, enjoy the work, meet the artists and join us in celebrating ten years of creativity, connection and collaboration at PorterShed”.
Embers reflects on the lasting impression each artist has left on PorterShed. The title speaks to the sparks of creativity, connection and inspiration that have continued to glow throughout the building long after each exhibition has ended.
The launch evening will welcome artists and the wider Galway community for an informal exhibition opening, networking, light refreshments and short welcome remarks acknowledging the contribution of participating artists and supporters.
The exhibition forms part of PorterShed’s wider 10-year celebration, honouring a decade of community, collaboration and innovation in Galway city. It also highlights the important role that non-traditional cultural spaces can play in supporting local artists and encouraging public engagement with the arts.
Embers is supported by The Galway City Council’s Art Office.
