At PorterShed, we’re passionate about connection,  between people, ideas, and opportunities. That’s why we’re delighted to announce our new partnership with Rugby Players Ireland, the representative body supporting professional rugby players as they transition to life beyond the sport.

New Partnership: PorterShed and Rugby Players Ireland Team Up to Support Players Beyond the Game

This partnership will see players gain access to PorterShed’s unique innovation community — a space where tech founders, creators, and innovators collaborate daily to build what’s next. Through workshops, networking, and hands-on exposure to Ireland’s thriving startup ecosystem, players will be able to explore new career paths, connect with mentors, and learn from the country’s leading tech minds.

It’s not the first time these two organisations have worked together. PorterShed previously hosted Rugby Players Ireland members for business workshops and start-up sessions — and many of those players have since gone on to launch or contribute to new ventures. Now, that relationship is back and stronger than ever.

“Rugby Players Ireland is delighted to reestablish our partnership with the PorterShed,” said Ronan Loughney, Player Development Manager and former Connacht Rugby player.

“Over the years, many of our members have benefited from this relationship through workshops, events, and exposure to the exceptional talent and knowledge within its community of innovators and start-ups. The transition from high-performance sport brings many challenges, with finding the right career path often being one of the greatest. Increasingly, we see former players channel their skills, drive, and resilience into the tech sector – an industry that aligns naturally with a high-performance mindset. Our renewed partnership with the PorterShed will further enhance these opportunities, supporting players as they continue to learn, grow, and thrive beyond the game.”

Speaking about the renewed partnership, Anthony Shaughnessy, Innovation Manager at PorterShed, said:

“We’re delighted to reconnect with Rugby Players Ireland. The values that define great athletes,  teamwork, resilience, and leadership — are the same ones that drive successful founders. This partnership is about helping players find that next chapter, surrounded by a community that understands ambition and innovation.”

As part of the agreement, Rugby Players Ireland members will be able to connect with the PorterShed community through its co-working spaces, mentoring sessions, programmes and events, creating new opportunities to learn, network, and collaborate.

This initiative also represents a shared commitment to community, innovation, and lifelong learning, helping players discover new ways to apply their skills while strengthening the ties between sport and Ireland’s technology ecosystem.

PorterShed invites other innovation hubs and partners across Ireland to join this effort, helping create pathways for athletes to explore entrepreneurship and contribute to the country’s growing innovation economy.
