Since August, the PorterShed community has been hard at work collecting and returning plastic bottles through the Re-Turn Scheme. The result? Over €400 was raised for the Galway & Claddagh Swan Rescue, a volunteer organisation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating wild birds in Galway.
This effort showcases how small, consistent actions can have a meaningful impact. By setting up a dedicated bin for Re-Turn bottles and cans, the PorterShed members not only reduced waste but also contributed to a cause that resonates deeply with the people of the Galway community.
A special thank you goes to Charlie Rodgers, who has taken the lead in bringing the bottles to the nearest Re-Turn machine every week. Charlie’s dedication has been instrumental in turning this initiative into a success.
Galway & Claddagh Swan Rescue does vital work, offering care to injured swans and wild birds, ensuring they can return to their natural habitats safely. Supporting them aligns perfectly with our values of community and sustainability.
This initiative has shown how recycling can go beyond environmental benefits to create a real social impact. It’s a reminder that when a community comes together, even small actions can add up to big changes.
